The district Žižkov, named after the leader of the Hussites ‘Jan Žižka’, is located East of the center. Prior to 1922, Žižkov was an independent city. The most famous building is the Žižkov TV Tower, which is situated in the Park ‘Mahlerovy sady’. In 1950 the Jan Žižka Statue, located on the Vítkov mountain, was inaugurated. The 9 meters high and 16.5-ton monument is the largest bronze statue in the world. Franz Kafka’s grave on the ‘New Jewish Cemetery (Nový židovský hřbitov)’ is also located in Žižkov. The former settlement from the 19th and 20th century is considered the center of Prague’s bohemian scene. The borough is popular because of its proximity to the center and numerous renovations to an ever more popular neighborhoods.
